JCU Student Accommodation

Duo Ultra™ IGU’s combined with Stormsafe Glass providing high levels of energy efficiency and cyclone impact resistance.

The student accommodation building at the JCU Townsville campus provides an excellent example of glazing to meet current and future climate challenges. The glazing specification required high levels of thermal insulation and solar control as typically required for tropical climates. To meet these requirements, Duo Ultra™Neutral 50 Insulated Glass Units were selected with an overall thickness of 32mm. For added protection of students and building structure a Stormsafe cyclone impact glass was assembled in the glass unit. 
Stormsafe is a Grade “A” laminated safety glass that provides protection against impacts from projectiles and debris. This special laminated glass has undergone and passed debris impact testing per AS/NZ 1170.2 Section 2.5.8. This test simulates the effect of impact on glass with frame and involves firing a 4kg timber projectile from a cannon at a specified speed and velocity.
