NON-REFLECTING
GLASS
Amiran®
Amiran glass is a specialty product designed to eliminate reflections usually
associated with ordinary float glass. The manufacturer claims the reflection
is reduced from 8% to 1% using this product. A benefit with this product
is that when a person is looking at goods in a shop window, no annoying
reflections will get in their way. The manufacturer claims that savings
in energy costs can also be made because the product reduces the need for
artificial lighting. It is available in a variety of thicknesses and tints.
MIrogard®
Standard 2mm diffused glass used for picture framing only works when the
picture is in direct contact with the glass. This limitation along with
its thickness, makes its unsuitable for display cases. Diffused glass also
reduces the clarity and sharpness of the picture. Schotts Mirogard
is an optically coated non reflective glass which is suitable for display
cases and picture framing.
It reduces reflectivity down to 1% (ordinary glass has a reflection of
around 8%). The special coating applied is chemically resistant and unaffected
by thermal shock and humidity and can be cleaned like ordinary glass. In
laminated form it can reduce damaging ultra-violet light significantly,
therefore assisting in protecting valuable art or antiquities.
Available in a variety of thicknesses in annealed and laminated forms. |
